Development
Your Shape was developed as a companion to the Ubisoft Motion Tracking Camera. Ubisoft's design team in Barcelona began developing the camera in 2007 after seeing a prototype of motion tracking technology from PrimeSense, a company that later provided motion sensing for Microsoft's Project Natal (released as Kinect) in 2009. The camera's development led to the fitness game. Your Shape was the first Wii game to support USB standards higher than 1.0, enabling the camera to function; support for USB 2.0 and higher was later added via a Wii System Update. The U.S. release featured an endorsement and appearances by model and comedian Jenny McCarthy as the in-game workout buddy.
Reception
Your Shape received mixed reviews from critics. The motion tracking camera was positively received for its ease of setup and accuracy, allowing the game to require no special accessories or controllers. However, reviewers noted that a large play area was necessary for the camera to function properly. GameSpot's Brett Todd gave the game a 5.0 out of 10, praising the camera but criticizing the game for a no-frills, female-oriented approach compared to titles like Wii Fit and EA Sports Active. He cited few customization options, no minigames, and bland routines of straight aerobics with little variation. Todd also criticized flattering and off-putting imagery, such as the 3D player body menu and the on-screen camera feed, concluding that there is not much in Your Shape that will get you off the couch.
