Lore & Background

Arenas joined the Wizards as a restricted free agent in 2003 after the Golden State Warriors could not match a six-year, $60 million offer. In his first season, he battled a strained abdominal muscle injury and started only 52 games, but still led the team in points and assists per game. In 2004–05, healthy, he teamed with Larry Hughes to form the NBA's highest-scoring backcourt duo, was selected to his first All-Star Game, and led the Wizards to a 45-win season and their first playoff berth since 1997. In the 2005 playoffs, he hit a game-winning 16-foot fadeaway in Game 5 against the Chicago Bulls, and the Wizards won the series—their first playoff series victory in over two decades. In 2005–06, he averaged 29.3 points (fourth in the league), 6.1 assists, and two steals per game. In 2006, the nickname 'Agent Zero' originated from a fansite. Arenas was suspended for most of the 2009–10 season due to handgun violations from an incident on December 24, 2009. In late 2010, he was traded to the Orlando Magic.
