The label was revived in the UK in 2014 under Warner Music UK's then-Chairman Max Lousada.[1] In 2024, Eric Wong was named President of East West Records and Head of Global A&R for Warner Recorded Music.[2] Warner Music Group, which is based in New York City, owns and distributes the record label East West Records, founded in 1955.[3]

Making and release

In 1990, Atlantic revamped the imprint as EastWest Records America and appointed Sylvia Rhone as President & CEO.[4] Under Rhone, the label achieved multi-platinum success with artists including En Vogue, Pantera, and AC/DC.[4] In 2005, WMG reactivated the East West label to market and distribute rock music.[5] In 2024, Eric Wong was appointed to lead East West Records as a connector across WMG's global ecosystem.[6]

The Kingsmen's "Week End" became the first hit for the label after Atlantic Records established it in 1955.[7] Simply Red, Chris Rea, Tanita Tikaram, Billy Mackenzie (as Associates), and The Beloved were among the UK acts signed to EastWest.[8] Interscope Records, Motor Jams Records, Mecca Don Records, and The Gold Mind Inc. were among the imprints whose distribution was handled by EastWest.[9]
