The series began with Little League World Series Baseball 2008, released on August 5, 2008 for the Wii and Nintendo DS by Activision. It was the first game officially licensed by Little League Baseball for the seventh generation of consoles. Its gameplay was similar to the baseball game in Wii Sports and Mario Super Sluggers. The game offered tournament mode, exhibition mode, and skill challenge mode, including minigames such as Home Run Tourney, Pitching Darts, Pitching Bowling, and a game similar to H-O-R-S-E-.

Little League World Series Baseball 2009 was developed by Japanese developer Now Production (NowPro). It introduced the ability for players to make their own team.
