Lore & Background
Samsonov was born in Magnitogorsk, Russia, and became a fan of ice hockey due to his grandfather. He chose the goaltender position because he liked the look of the equipment. He made his KHL debut in relief with Metallurg Magnitogorsk during the 2014–15 season. He was drafted 22nd overall by the Washington Capitals in the 2015 NHL entry draft, despite missing the scouting combine and conducting no interviews with the team. He signed a three-year, entry-level contract with the Capitals in May 2018 and made his NHL debut in the 2019–20 season, winning his first 11 starts. He later signed with the Vegas Golden Knights on 1 July 2024.
In Their Own Story
The arena lights hummed above the ice as the third period wound down. The score was tied, and the air felt thick with tension. Samsonov adjusted his mask, eyes locked on the puck carrier charging from the slot. With a sudden burst, he dropped into a butterfly stance, pads sealing the crease tight against the boards. A sharp slap shot rang off his blocker, deflecting harmlessly away as the whistle blew moments later. The crowd erupted, but in the quiet of the net, he simply raised a gloved hand to his teammates.
