Antarctica

Lore & Background

VALORANT's initial scientific expeditions ventured into these latitudes to study the phenomenon before it spread globally. These missions were perilous, often resulting in lost contact or catastrophic failures that reinforced the need for the strict containment protocols later established by the organization. The Antarctic records remain classified, hinting at a darker chapter in the war against Radiants where humanity first learned the cost of their power.

Reader's Guide

Antarctica in the Valorant setting is more than just a geographic location; it is a symbolic boundary between the known human world and the unknown forces of Radiants. It plays a crucial role as the backdrop for the earliest, most dangerous experiments conducted by the organization that would eventually become VALORANT. This frozen wasteland matters because it represents the origin point of the conflict. It is where humanity first realized that their new powers were not gifts to be celebrated, but forces that could destroy them if left unchecked. The isolation of the continent made it the perfect testing ground for containment strategies. For fans and lore enthusiasts, Antarctica offers a glimpse into the 'before' times—the era before agents like Jett or Sage existed. It highlights the scientific and military desperation that birthed the Protocol, grounding the high-fantasy elements of Radiants in a gritty, realistic struggle for survival against an alien power.

• The extreme cold of Antarctica is often used in lore to explain why certain Radiant anomalies remained dormant for centuries.
• Early VALORANT expeditions to the continent were among the most classified operations in the organization's history.
• The isolation of the region made it a strategic location for studying Radiants without public interference.
• Some theories suggest that the 'first spark' of human-Radiant interaction occurred on this frozen land.
