The Vanguard

Lore & Background

The formation of the Vanguard was a direct response to the sudden appearance of Radiants—humans born with abilities derived from an unknown energy source. As these powers began to destabilize regions, governments collaborated to form this specialized force capable of handling supernatural conflicts without causing public panic. Unlike traditional militaries, the Vanguard operates in the shadows and on the front lines simultaneously. They understand that the very people they recruit hold the potential for destruction if left unchecked. Consequently, their doctrine emphasizes discipline, control, and the ethical application of power to protect the innocent from both Radiant misuse and those who would exploit it. Their history is marked by high-stakes interventions where standard weaponry would fail. By integrating Agents into tactical teams, they bridge the gap between conventional security and supernatural warfare. This unique position makes them the primary line of defense against organizations like Blackwood, which seek to harvest Radiant energy for commercial gain.

Reader's Guide

The Vanguard stands as the primary international authority tasked with monitoring and neutralizing threats arising from Radiant energy. Since the first emergence of individuals born with supernatural abilities, this organization has worked to prevent chaos and ensure safety across the globe. They operate through specialized cells that deploy trained operatives known as Agents into conflict zones where powers are misused. Their primary goal is containment rather than eradication, seeking to understand Radiant phenomena while stopping those who exploit them for profit or destruction. This often puts them at odds with corporate entities like Blackwood Industries, which seek to weaponize these energies without regulation. While the Vanguard recruits from a diverse range of backgrounds, loyalty and discipline remain paramount within their ranks. Members undergo rigorous training to master their unique abilities while adhering to strict ethical protocols. They are not an army in the traditional sense but rather a tactical force designed for precision strikes against high-value targets. Their presence is felt worldwide, maintaining order where others would succumb to panic. Ultimately, they serve as the shield between humanity and the unpredictable power of the Radiants.
