El Gato is an upcoming American superhero series for Amazon Prime Video, created by Eric Carrasco and adapted from the 1993 comic series El Gato Negro by Richard Dominguez. The show follows Diego Boneta as Francisco "Frank" Guerrero, who inherits the masked identity of El Gato Negro from his father, a former vigilante, and must navigate crime and family secrets. The supporting cast includes Sarah Jones as Ashley, a CIA field agent managing Frank while targeting a covert criminal network; Lorenza Izzo as Rosa, an outsider who sees the dangers in her wealthy new family; Eric Lange as Simon Casimir / The Nazarite, a villain with superhuman strength; Angela Sarafyan as Elisa Kazanjian, a cold former CIA agent investigating agricultural billionaire Gabriel Guerrero; Alfonso Dosal as Alejandro "Alex" Guerrero, a ruthless executive and Gabriel’s ambitious nephew; and Adriana Barraza as Alma, the mother of Frank’s father who learns that her husband was the original El Gato Negro. Produced by MGM Television, the series was developed with Diego Boneta executive producing through his company Three Amigos, and Robert Rodriguez attached to direct and executive produce. Originally set for Apple TV+, the project moved to Amazon Prime Video, which greenlit the series in February 2024. Filming began in Mexico City on June 24, 2024, with casting additions continuing through June of that year.
