The Story of Revival Day

Set in the small town of Wausau, Wisconsin, Revival centers on a phenomenon that shatters the boundary between life and death. The recently deceased suddenly return to their communities, retaining their looks, memories, and personalities while also gaining the power to regenerate from injuries. These returned individuals are called Revivers, and their arrival—dubbed Revival Day—throws the entire town into upheaval. At the heart of the story is Deputy Dana Cypress, a police officer tasked with solving a murder in which every resident, both living and newly revived, becomes a suspect. Her sister Martha, known as Em, is herself a Reviver, and she struggles to make sense of her second existence while searching for the true origins of the event. The series, created by Aaron B. Koontz and Luke Boyce, adapts the Image Comics series written by Tim Seeley and illustrated by Mike Norton, translating its supernatural noir tone into a ten-episode television format.

Production and Filming

Revival's journey from greenlight to screen unfolded over roughly a year. Syfy confirmed a full series order during the NBCUniversal upfront presentation in May 2024, targeting a 2025 launch window. By May 2025, Bell Media had locked in the ten-episode run for Canada's CTV Sci-Fi Channel. Casting moved quickly. The four leads—Melanie Scrofano, Romy Weltman, David James Elliott, and Andy McQueen—were announced in September 2024, followed by Steven Ogg in a recurring capacity and Phil Brooks the next month. A broader supporting slate, including Gia Sandhu, Katharine King So, Maia Jae, Nathan Dales, Mark Little, Glen Gould, Lara Jean Chorostecki, and Conrad Coates, was added in December 2024, with the complete ensemble confirmed by February 2025. Principal photography ran from September to December 7, 2024, across southeastern New Brunswick, Canada. Crews shot in Saint John, Sussex, Norton, Grand Bay-Westfield, and Hampton, employing more than six hundred full- and part-time workers from the province.

Global Release and Distribution

Revival debuted on June 12, 2025, airing simultaneously on Syfy in the United States and CTV Sci-Fi Channel in Canada. Each episode became available for streaming on Peacock and Crave roughly a week after its broadcast debut. The series' international rollout was handled by Dynamic Television, which secured partners across multiple regions. Sky UK picked up the rights for the United Kingdom and Ireland, while Universal Networks distributed the show across France, Spain, Portugal, Poland, and the Balkans. Additional deals included Cosmote TV in Greece, Tivibu in Turkey, and Foxtel in Australia. In the UK, the series found its home on Sky Max, where it premiered on October 12, 2025. For audiences preferring a single-platform release, Revival eventually landed on Netflix, with a global streaming drop scheduled for August 24, 2026. The site's consensus praised the show for leveraging its strong central concept with varied tonal shifts, singling out Melanie Scrofano's lead performance as a particular highlight. Metacritic assigned a weighted average of 71 based on eight reviews, landing in the generally favourable range. Cable viewership told a more mixed story. The premiere episode drew a combined 238,000 viewers across Syfy and its USA Network simulcast, but numbers dipped to 106,000 by episode eight and 94,000 by episode nine—figures industry observers described as underwhelming for a cable slot. However, the series reportedly found stronger footing on streaming, topping Peacock's most-watched chart during its premiere week. This pattern suggested that Revival's true audience gravitated toward on-demand viewing rather than traditional cable scheduling.
