A revival of the 1987–1993 NBC sitcom, this upcoming Netflix comedy series brings back Jasmine Guy and Kadeem Hardison as Whitley Gilbert-Wayne and Dwayne Wayne, along with Maleah Joi Moon. Many other original cast members also return. The show's premiere date has not yet been announced.
The story follows Deborah Wayne, the free-spirited, kindhearted, and rebellious youngest child of Dwayne and Whitley, as she starts her freshman year at Hillman College. She struggles to step out of her parents’ shadow while trying to build her own legacy, all while enjoying life with a new generation of Hillman’s brightest students.

On August 7, 2024, Deadline reported that a sequel was in development at Netflix as a single-camera half-hour comedy centered on Whitley and Dwayne’s daughter at Hillman. Felicia Pride, who worked on *Bel-Air* and *Grey’s Anatomy*, was set to write and produce, with Debbie Allen, Mandy Summers, Tom Werner, Gina Prince-Bythewood, and Reggie Bythewood executive producing. Production was delayed by the COVID-19 pandemic; filming in Atlanta ran from February to May 2026.
