Background
Roman pulled Navarro out of poverty in the slums and set him up at the head of a mercenary force on his payroll. He had also lent Victor Sullivan a large sum of money with a strict deadline attached.
In Drake's Fortune, Roman and Navarro follow Nate and Sully through the Amazon rainforest and catch up with them at a wrecked German U-boat, where Roman prepares to shoot Nate and Sully takes the bullet instead. Beneath the island's monastery, Navarro talks Roman into opening the golden statue; it turns out to be a sarcophagus, Roman breathes in the cursed dust inside and begins to mutate, and Navarro kills him with a shot to the head.
