Oy Vershe Miy, Vershe
A Lemko song of longing for home and homeland.
«Ой верше мій, верше» (Oy Vershe Miy, Vershe) is a Lemko folk song that ranks among the most performed Ukrainian songs. It belongs to the family and wedding song category and tells of a young woman who marries but anticipates that her new home will lack the comfort of her mother's house. After the forced deportation of Lemko people from their homeland, the song became a symbol of longing for the lost land.
