The Clancy Saga
Escape Dema, find yourself, defy the bishops — or burn it all down trying.
The Clancy saga is the storyline that runs through Twenty One Pilots' albums. Clancy, a fictional character and the protagonist of the band's conceptual world, was introduced with Trench (2018) through journal entries about his escape from Dema, a city ruled by nine bishops. The narrative was expanded in Scaled and Icy (2021) and Clancy (2024) and concluded with Breach (2025), closing a conceptual series that began with Blurryface (2015).

Lore & Background
A group who call themselves the Banditos aims to liberate the people of Dema. In the 2024 video "I Am Clancy", the character recaps the story of the previous albums: his attempts to escape Dema, joining the Banditos, being captured by the bishops and escaping to the island of Voldsøy. The album Clancy then follows him as he returns to Trench to free his fellow citizens of Dema after being granted a "miraculous power".
