Sid Meier's Civilization V is a 4X turn-based strategy video game developed by Firaxis Games and published by 2K.[1] On a procedurally generated map, a player controls a civilization's journey from prehistory to the future, aiming for victory through research, exploration, diplomacy, expansion, economic development, government, and military conquest.[2]
Making and release
The team used the Civilization IV game engine for initial tests while a new graphics engine called LORE was built from the ground up.[3] The game was released for Windows in September 2010, for Mac OS X on November 23, 2010, and for Linux on June 10, 2014.[1] The State of Maryland named September 21, 2010, as "Sid Meier's Civilization V Day" due to Meier's success.[4] Development of Civilization V by Firaxis started around 2007, with an initial team of seven artists under Jon Shafer's leadership.[3]
On September 27, 2011, a Game of the Year edition became available, which bundled map packs and several new civilizations.[5] A Gold edition, which included the Gods & Kings expansion pack, was put on sale starting February 12, 2013.[6] February 4, 2014 saw the release of a Complete edition that contained both expansion packs and all DLC packs.[7]
What the cited sources add
The Civilization V Analyst source states that cities have a Combat Strength and can defend against attacks on their own.[8] According to the same source, a liberated city of another civilization will be returned to that civilization even if it was formerly eliminated from the game.[8] The Analyst notes that cities do not flip from culture as they did in earlier versions, and cultural borders do not shift due to additional culture once established.[8] The source also explains that if your civilization is unhappy, then the city will produce less food.[8]
