Lore & Background
C.M.W. included rappers MC Eiht, Tha Chill and DJ Mike T and the producers DJ Slip and The Unknown DJ. In the mid-1980s Tha Chill and MC Eiht were writing raps and recording demo "hood tapes" in Compton, and chose to pursue music after watching their friend MC Ren of N.W.A build a buzz in Los Angeles County.
Reader's Guide
In 1987 The Unknown DJ received one of those tapes and brought it to DJ Slip in Gardena. In 1988, under DJ Slip's production, the group recorded its first professional song, "Rhymes To Funky", for the Compton compilation Sound Control Mob - Under Investigation.
