Buddha Sounds was founded in 2002 by producer Alex Seoan, who serves as the group's guitarist, keyboardist, sampler operator and vocalist. The ensemble also includes Maia Krasnaia (voice and violin), Jay Fernández (drums), Anubis Rha (bass), Kantik (dancer and vocals), Shankari (dancer and vocals) and Yana (vocals). Their debut album 'Buddha Sounds I' was released in 2002, followed by 'Buddha Sounds II "The Arabic Dream"' and 'Buddha Sounds III "Chill In Tibet"' both in 2003, 'Buddha Sounds IV "Inner"' in 2007, 'Buddha Sounds V "New Mantrams"' in 2009, and 'Buddha Sounds VI "Guest in the Universe"' in 2011.

The group's music has reached international audiences through film placements. In 2010, the song 'Odna' from the album 'Inner' was included in the movie 'Sex and the City 2', the last film based on the HBO TV show. That same year, 'Xanadu' from 'Buddha Sounds II' appeared in the American/Israeli co-production 'After the Cup: Sons of Sakhnin United'. Buddha Sounds has performed in Ecuador, Peru, Venezuela, and Argentina.

'Buddha Sounds II' won the Gardel Award for Best Electronic Music Album, and 'New Mantrams' was nominated for the Gardel Awards 2010 in the same category. The group's discography features numerous collaborations with vocalists and musicians such as Ahy'o, Dew, Uschi, Lila Liu, Amira Alaf, Kantik, Shankari Lasya, Maia Krasnaia, and others.
