Lore & Background
The group originated from the 'Light Brigade for Jesus Christ,' a 1972 teenagers' ministry operating out of a coffee shop in Spriggs's home. It later formed the Vine Christian Community Church after a service cancellation. The group moved to Island Pond, Vermont in the late 1970s, and by the 1980s and 1990s expanded to several countries. The group believes it is recreating the 1st-century church as described in the Book of Acts and uses the Hebrew name 'Yahshua' for Jesus.

The group operates restaurants like The Yellow Deli and community marketplaces for funding. It has been criticized for supremacist views, racism, misogyny, homophobia, and allegations of child abuse.
