Bumblebee is a fictional robot character appearing in many installments of the Transformers franchise as a member of the Autobots, a group of sentient transforming extraterrestrial robotic lifeforms. Originally created for the 1984 US toy line rebranded from Japanese Diaclone and Microchange franchises, his name was coined by Bob Budiansky for the Marvel Comics series. In the original toys and animated series, he transforms into a small yellow Volkswagen Beetle, serving as a scout due to his diminutive size. However, live-action film versions depict him transforming into a yellow Chevrolet Camaro because Volkswagen denied rights to the Beetle. This shift in alternate mode, combined with his unique radio-based communication style in the films, propelled Bumblebee to mainstream popularity starting with the 2007 movie.

He formed a best friendship with human Spike Witwicky after chasing Decepticons to Earth.
