The series begins with Cybertron at peace until Megatron leads a rebellion against the corrupt Senate, sparking a civil war. Optimus Prime sends the AllSpark through a space bridge to an unknown location to keep it from the Decepticons. Cybertron begins to die without the AllSpark. Optimus leads a crew including Bumblebee, Arcee, Prowl, Grimlock, Ratchet, Wheeljack, Chromia, Rack'n'Ruin, and Drift aboard the Ark to find the AllSpark. The Ark's computer system, Teletraan-1, manages the ship, while Teletraan-X is a separate entity introduced later. Due to an Energon shortage, the Autobots enter stasis. The Ark finds the AllSpark on Earth but crashes. Bumblebee and Grimlock fall out before impact; Bumblebee remains in stasis while Grimlock lands on prehistoric Earth and interacts with dinosaurs, but does not teach them Cybertronian technology. The dinosaur extinction occurs, but not due to a meteorite in the series' canon. Grimlock then also enters stasis.

The Fall of Cybertron and the Ark's Odyssey

Before the series begins, Cybertron was a peaceful world until Megatron's election as supreme ruler ignited a civil war between those who accepted his authority and those who resisted. The conflict between Autobots and Decepticons consumed the planet, and in a desperate measure, Optimus Prime launched the AllSpark—the vessel of all Cybertronian life—through a space bridge to an unknown destination, knowing it could not fall into Decepticon hands. The planet began to slowly die without it. Optimus then led a crew including Bumblebee, Arcee, Prowl, Grimlock, Ratchet, and others aboard the Ark in search of the AllSpark. Energon shortages forced everyone into stasis. The Ark eventually located the AllSpark on Earth but crashed upon arrival. Bumblebee and Grimlock fell from the ship before impact; Grimlock befriended the dinosaurs and taught them Cybertronian technology before they went extinct and he returned to stasis, leaving Bumblebee alone in his frozen state.

The Starscream Gambit and the AllSpark Contest

In the second chapter, the war on Earth escalates when Megatron attempts to slam the moon into the planet. Optimus wounds Megatron in the resulting battle, and Starscream—refusing to aid his leader—sparks a bitter power struggle. Megatron names Slipstream the new Seeker commander, and a humiliated Starscream attacks Megatron, briefly seizing command before Megatron kills him in revenge. Yet Starscream survives, steals the AllSpark, and uses it alongside Vector Sigma to create an army of Scraplets, intending to eliminate all opposition. Cheetor, a Cybertronian guardian created by the AllSpark, holds a contest between Optimus and Megatron over who is worthy of the Spark. Before a winner emerges, the living Starscream intervenes. After absorbing the sparks of his fellow Seekers and attempting the same on both factions, Optimus uses the Matrix of Leadership to strip Starscream of the AllSpark. Cheetor recovers it for the Autobots, who take Starscream prisoner.

The Three-Chapter Arc and the Quintesson Threat
