Takemichi Hanagaki is the main protagonist of Tokyo Revengers. A 26-year-old freeter living in a daze, he learns from the news that his former girlfriend, Hinata Tachibana, and her brother Naoto were killed in a conflict caused by the Tokyo Manji Gang.

Pushed onto the train tracks, he leaps twelve years into the past to his middle-school days. There he tells Naoto that he and Hinata will die, and when they shake hands Takemichi returns to a present in which Naoto is alive and a police officer; Naoto explains the time leaps and persuades him to go back and save Hinata. In the end Takemichi and Mikey leap back together to 1998, rewrite history, and eleven years later Takemichi and Hinata marry.
