Titans Tomorrow
A dystopian future where Tim Drake becomes Batman.
Last updated
"Titans Tomorrow" is a DC Comics storyline from Teen Titans vol. 3 #17–19 (2005), written by Geoff Johns and drawn by Mike McKone. It presents a possible alternate future for the Teen Titans and was later collected in the trade paperback Teen Titans: The Future is Now. The concept was revisited in the "Titans of Tomorrow... Today!" storyline by Sean McKeever and Alé Garza.
Titans Tomorrow
During their first date, Superboy (Conner Kent) and Wonder Girl encounter a wormhole that sends Superboy into the 31st century of the Legion of Super-Heroes. Time travel causes memory lapses, and Superboy cannot recall his departure. He spends five months in the future fighting the Fatal Five before Saturn Girl uses her powers to determine his origin. Superboy re-emerges from the portal seconds after leaving, wearing Superman's costume, followed by Persuader.
The Legion is lost in time due to Infinite Crisis, while the Titans travel ten years into their future. They emerge at Titans Tower in San Francisco, where DNA screening grants them access.
The statue of the founding Titans has been replaced by one of the current team, and the Hall of Mentors includes statues of Ares, Lex Luthor, and Superman back-to-back, with a shattered statue of Batman. The future Titans, led by an adult Tim Drake as Batman, confront the Teen Titans until future Bart Allen ends the hostilities. The Titans agree to let the Teen Titans stay the night.
Titans of Tomorrow... Today!
A year after Infinite Crisis, the future Teen Titans—Conner Kent as Superman, Tim Drake as Batman, Cassie Sandsmark as Wonder Woman, Bart Allen as Flash, Eddie Bloomberg as Red Devil, and M'gann M'orzz as Martian Manhunter—arrive from nine years ahead to protect their own timeline. They disable the Justice League so their younger counterparts can handle Starro and his brainwashed villains alone. Future Bart and Conner, both clones created by Tim Drake, operate with looser morals than their past selves.
Future Batman tells Robin to "start making a real difference"; Robin replies he will, pressing Batman's gun to his own head. Batman warns that pulling the trigger would doom more lives, with no chance of Conner or Bart returning, and urges Robin to move on from Wonder Girl. Robin later considers killing Prometheus with the same gun. Blue Beetle beats the Flash after a tough fight and frees the Justice League, who keep faith in the Titans.
Red Devil admits he killed Blue Beetle in the future but is stopped by Ravager and Kid Devil in the present. Lex Luthor shows up with adult versions of Cyborg, Animal Man, Aquawoman, Dark Raven, Bumblebee, Flamebird, Hawk, Vulcan, Red Arrow, Zachary Zatara, Shining Knight, Terra, Starwoman, Prysm, Batwoman, Black Ray, Toyman, Hardrock, Huntress, and Pandemic. Luthor claims their meddling made the future worse. Starro then attacks, forcing both teams to join forces.
A Lonely Place of Living
In the DC Rebirth storyline, a future version of Tim Drake is held captive by Mr. Oz. This Tim had split from the future Titans, leaving them to battle Cyborg's team alone. He later aids his younger self in recapturing Doomsday after the creature's accidental release. They flee to Gotham, where the older Tim discovers that Flashpoint changed the timeline.
Believing he can stop his bleak future, he paralyzes his teenage counterpart and attempts to murder Kate Kane, holding her responsible for the Bat Family's collapse. His plan fails, and he is returned to his own era.
In the Super Sons of Tomorrow timeline, an even older Tim Drake comes back to Gotham, intending to kill Jon Kent, Superman's son, to avert disasters caused by Jon's future choices. Other members of the Titans of Tomorrow—including their versions of Superman, Flash, and Wonder Woman—pursue him. After assisting in containing Jon's solar flare, Tim becomes trapped in Hypertime.
Characters
Animal Man is Gar Logan, who refused to join Cyborg on Titans East because Terra was a member. His powers have increased to allow transformation into mythical animals and multiple animals at once; the future Animal Man hints that present-day Beast Boy also has this ability but is unwilling to use it. Aquawoman is Lorena Marquez, the current Aquagirl, possessing telepathic abilities; she took down Garth at some point and has been erased from the team's lineup history since Infinite Crisis.
Batman is Tim Drake, who took the mantle after Bruce Wayne's death at the hands of Brother Eye. He is more ruthless than his predecessor, carrying the gun Joe Chill used to kill Thomas and Martha Wayne, and uses it to execute criminals. He appears to lead the Titans, inherited Wayne Manor (renamed Drake Manor) and the kryptonite ring from Bruce, and is hunted by GCPD commissioner Renee Montoya and James Gordon. Dark Raven is Raven, who accepted her role as demoness and daughter of Trigon, using her powers to absorb all emotion from the Western United States under Titans control; she has been erased from the team's lineup history since Infinite Crisis.
Flash is Bart Allen, seemingly the only Titan without compromised morals, working also for Titans East; he remembers his time travels and seeks to change the past, is involved with Rose Wilson, and is a double agent for Titans East. A second alternate Flash is a clone created by Tim after Bart died battling Inertia and the Rogues.
