Monolit

Biography

In 1988, Monolit recorded their first three-song demo, which was well received by fans and critics. A second three-song demo followed in 1990, marking a slight departure from the heavier direction of earlier works; the new sound was welcomed in major music magazines across Yugoslavia. The band expanded its fan base and played several large live shows around the country. By 1991, they had recorded material for a first album and performed at the biggest metal festival in former Yugoslavia, held in Sarajevo, before 2,500 fans. The civil war spreading across the country in 1992 caused the band to break up. Upon their first meeting after the war in 2006, two members paid tribute to a lost friend by re-recording 'Kletva' in memory of drummer and founding member Zlatko Mehic (Zuba), who died in the war in 1993. The band decided to continue despite members living in Norway and Canada. Monolit released its first album, Arcana Balkanica, in 2008 on One Records from Belgrade, a collection of old and new songs. In 2011, Mighty Records from Germany contacted the band to officially release old songs as Deimos Tapes, named after the band's mascot, a joker called Deimos. This release consists of songs recorded from 1988 to 1992, remastered, with two newly recorded bonus tracks.
