Diego Hargreeves

A sharp-tongued vigilante who throws knives through space to protect the family he loves.

Diego Hargreeves, also known as Number Two or his superhero alter-ego The Kraken, is the reckless and rebellious member of the Umbrella Academy. His primary power in the comics is a form of limited telekinesis that allows him to control the trajectory of thrown objects, as well as hold his breath indefinitely. He is a master of knife-throwing, using his telekinesis to change the direction of projectiles in midair, and is highly proficient in close-quarter combat. He and Luther have a clear rivalry, and Diego is often unwilling to take orders from him.

Reader's Guide

Diego Hargreeves is the brooding, action-oriented Number Two of The Umbrella Academy. Adopted from Mexico City, he wields the power of object teleportation, allowing him to throw knives and other items across distances with pinpoint accuracy. His character arc is a struggle between his desire for autonomy and his inability to escape the family dynamic.

Initially portrayed as a hardened vigilante who rejects his father's authority, Diego often serves as the team's muscle during crises. However, beneath his tough exterior lies a profound fear of abandonment and inadequacy. He frequently clashes with Luther regarding leadership but shares a deep, unspoken bond with Five, recognizing their shared trauma.

A defining moment in his journey is his relationship with Lila, which forces him to confront his emotional walls. By the end of his storylines, Diego evolves from a rebellious loner into a selfless protector who understands that saving the world requires more than just throwing knives; it demands opening one's heart.
