Making and release
The plot follows a projectionist named Shane who agrees to illegally record a film called "Vengeful Spirit" from the cinema screen.[2] The story shuttles between the "reel" and the "real" worlds where the characters inhabit.[2] The film is set mostly in a cinema, putting the audience in a familiar and immediate setting.[2] The runtime is 1 hour and 25 minutes.[2]
The film was released by GV with English and Chinese subtitles.[2]
What the cited sources add
Slasherpool felt the film had some decent scary moments and that the script was sound.[3] Slasherpool noted first-time director Sopon Sukdapisit made "rookie" mistakes and nothing very innovative.[3] Slasherpool opined it "is a movie destined to be remade" and "worth watching if you're in the mood for a decent ghost story".[3] Movie Exclusive summarized that "Coming Soon doesn't have enough to be an instant classic, but it bodes well for the GMM Tai Hub stable".[2][3]
The Fridae Movie Club thought the film had promise but noted "the direction falls way short of the ambitious script".[3] Fangoria wrote that "the majority of Coming Soon feels overly familiar and illogical".[3]
