Dark Flight is a 2012 Thai horror film directed by Issara Nadee. The story follows a passenger plane haunted by ghosts that slowly drive the passengers insane, causing them to kill one another.

Plot

A decade before the main events, flight SA-407 experienced supernatural incidents that killed everyone on board except a flight attendant named New, who survived by keeping her eyes shut until the plane landed. In the present, the same aircraft has been repainted and put back into service. Its passengers include a family (Gift, Phen, and Jamras), a tourist named Ann and her admirer Wave, a couple named John and Michelle, a flight attendant named Prince, an engineer named Bank, a monk, an old woman, a perverted American, two other female attendants, a pilot, and a captain.

The plane’s oxygen levels drop, forcing Bank to repair the system in the cargo hold. The old woman dies during this process. Bank informs New of a possible short circuit and works on the oxygen pressurizer, nearly collapsing before Bank brings her to safety. Strange events escalate: dead bodies vanish, possessed passengers attack each other, and the survivors dwindle to Gift, Jamras, Phen, Bank, and New.

Phen becomes possessed and strangles New, but a rolling cart kills Phen with forks. Bank and Jamras manage to land the plane safely. Throughout the oxygen crisis, Phen repeatedly accuses New of being the source of all paranormal activity, though Jamras and Gift silence her. At the ambulance, Gift asks where New is, and Bank sees her soul inside the plane.

It is revealed that New died along with Phen, and the spirits sought revenge because ten years earlier, New saved only herself and left the others to die. The film ends as the plane is scheduled for repainting, with New’s spirit still sitting inside.

The cast includes Marsha Wattanapanich as New, Peter Knight as Bank, Paramej Noiam as Jamras, Patcharee Tubthong as Gift, Anchalee Hassadeevichit as Phen, Thiti Vechabul as Prince, Namo Tongkumnerd as Wave, Sisangian Sihalath as Ann, Jonathan Samson as John, and Kristen Evelyn Rossi as Michelle.

The film’s 3D effects were created by the Hong Kong company Digital Magic, making it the first Thai film shot in 3D. Dark Flight was released in Thailand on 22 March 2012.

Release

During its opening weekend, it was the second-highest-grossing film in Thailand, behind The Hunger Games. The film earned $1,133,343 in Thailand and $2,007,612 worldwide. Distribution rights were sold to Encore Films for Hong Kong, Deepjoy Picture Corporation for Taiwan, Clover Films for Singapore and Malaysia, PT Inter Solusindo Film for Indonesia, and Filmworks for Cambodia.
