Plot

The series follows Richard Crane, a successful city businessman who grows tired of the rat race and retires to the Moroccan coast near Casablanca. He invests his money in a beachside café and boat, and lets it be known that his services are available for import and export assignments. This leads him into minor smuggling of tobacco and alcohol. His activities attract the attention of Colonel Mahmoud, the local chief of police, and the two develop a mutual respect, sometimes joining forces against a common enemy. Mahmoud is assisted by Inspector Larbi. Crane's only real friend is Orlando O'Connor, an ex-Foreign Legionnaire who becomes his confidant. The glamour in the show is provided by Halima, a young Arab girl who runs the bar in Crane's café.

Particularities

Location filming was shot in Morocco, mainly by Christopher Hodson, while interior filming was studio-bound at Wembley in London with various directors. Originally planned as a midsummer filler programme for one season of 13 episodes, the series proved so popular that it returned for a second and third season, each of 13 episodes.
