Plot summary
The Ink Thief, a rogue muse, steals imagination by sucking ink from books and drawings. Jim is manipulated by the Ink Thief while Sam works to stop him. Each episode includes plot-specific songs.
Production
Illustrator Steve Hanson created the initial concept art. Production Designer Murti Schofield credited Hanson's concepts for generating early enthusiasm. Paul Springer wrote the series and also authored a tie-in book. Director Tony White described it as a low-budget, no-time effort that reached No. 5 in ratings. Several crew members, including White and Schofield, acted in small roles. Adrian Lee composed the songs. The show ran for one season of seven half-hour episodes.
Cast
Felicity Todd played Sam, an artistic girl who fights to rescue her brother. Stefan Weclawek portrayed Jim, a science-minded boy vulnerable to the Ink Thief's manipulation. Richard O'Brien starred as the Ink Thief, a rogue muse who consumes imagination. Joyce Springer played Miz Tiggle, a librarian who speaks in riddles and is sister to the Ink Thief. Gary Martin voiced Lorni Snoop, a floppy-eared bump. Toyah Willcox appeared as Dog, a loyal friend to Miz Tiggle. Richard Ridings played Aloysius, a muscular rat and the Ink Thief's right-hand man. Paul Springer portrayed Toddy, a dimwitted cat henchman. Other cast members included Owain Thomas as Creaker, Kristen Wilkin as Thumper, Tamir Randall as Roll, and Mary-Louise Clark as Shake Rattle/Storm.
