Format

Three players appear each episode and pick from twelve categories. A specialist, often a celebrity or expert, poses a general knowledge question. Answering it correctly unlocks a tougher cash question, but no prize comes from the first question. A wrong answer eliminates that contestant, and others can steal the cash question. Correct cash answers earn £100 in the first round, £300 in the second, and £601 in the third. Categories range from Film, Geography, and Music to Celebrity, Sport, Art, Food & Drink, History, Television, Human Body, Science, Nature, Maths, Politics, and Animals. The Mystery category is always available.

Final round

The final round uses the three categories not yet chosen. The leading player picks first; the third-place contestant answers first, needing two correct answers—the first being the one they should know—or they are eliminated. If the leader answers both correctly, they win automatically regardless of others. If no one answers both correctly, there is no returning champion and three new contestants appear next. In Series 2, only the player who banked the most money picks the category for all. The winner may answer a single question for the entire prize pot; a wrong answer rolls the pot over. The champion returns for the next show whether or not they win the jackpot.
