Did You Know?
- Madison was played by a living parrot only in scenes requiring a full-body view, such as flying or perching; an animatronic parrot was used for talking and interacting.
- The animatronic parrot has a uniformly grey beak, while the real parrot has a black and white beak.
- In the original book, Madison is an African grey parrot, not a macaw.
Premise
The show begins when Harry Holdsworth, played by Gareth Parrington, inherits his American great-uncle George's macaw named Madison. The Holdsworth family are initially not pleased with their new pet, but soon notice that Madison is highly intelligent and articulate, becoming an instant family member. Madison both solves and causes many problems for the family. Terry Crumm, played by Mark Billingham, repeatedly attempts to steal Madison due to his intelligence, but Madison usually foils his plans. In the third series, the family sells their house and moves to a run-down hotel taken over when Aunt Agatha moved to America. Harry, studying for his GCSEs, appears less, replaced by Aunt Agatha's adopted children Hattie (Amy Butterworth) and Jools (Richard Castillo). In the fourth series, Jools leaves and Harry returns.
