La fuga (TV series)

La fuga is a Spanish dystopian television series about a prison escape, created by Nacho Faerna. It aired on Telecinco from 11 January to 4 April 2012, starring María Valverde and Aitor Luna. The story takes place in a near future where governments have curtailed freedoms. Daniel, a member of the resistance, is sentenced to life in a high-security prison built on an artificial island. To free him, his wife Anna becomes a prison guard and devises a highly dangerous rescue plan.

Produced by Mediaset España with BocaBoca, filming began in July 2011 under the working title "2055" on a 3,000 m² set in San Sebastián de los Reyes. Directed by Antonio Hernández, the series consists of twelve episodes, each 70 minutes long. The score was composed by Jeansy Aúz, and the main theme "Pero si tú no estás" was written and performed by Nena Daconte.

The first episode achieved a promising 16.9% audience share, outperforming its Wednesday rival *Downton Abbey*. However, viewership steadily declined to a low of 8.5% by the penultimate episode, averaging a weak 11.3%. This occurred despite Telecinco moving the series from Wednesday to Tuesday and then back to Wednesday. The network decided not to renew it for a second season. Online, the series performed better, becoming one of the most requested programs on Mediaset España’s Mitele platform. It was also well received internationally at Cannes’ MIPTV, earning a spot on the event's "Wit List," and DirecTV acquired its rights for the Americas.
