Sonia Saraiya of Vanity Fair viewed it favorably, calling it a clever modern adaptation that engaged thoughtfully with the source material while shedding its more problematic racial and gendered elements. Judy Berman of Time found the production visually gorgeous with solid acting but noted it felt more indebted to Westworld than to Huxley, and she struggled to invest in characters she described as lacking eccentricity. Daniel D'Addario of Variety argued the characters were so thoroughly shaped by their environment that they felt hollow, and that the project lacked a clear identity. Despite mixed reviews, the series found audiences worldwide, airing on Sky One in the UK, Showcase in Canada, KinoPoisk HD in Russia, TVNOW in Germany, Starzplay across much of Europe, and Stan in Australia.
