Plot
Jonathan Donald, a wealthy car dealer convicted of drink driving, is sentenced to 60 hours of community service at The Moonbeam Club, a facility for young adults with social and behavioural difficulties. There he meets recently widowed Laura Cooper, who dislikes his attitude and tells him to leave. After failing to meet the terms of his sentence, Jonathan is ordered by the court to return, with his service extended to 100 hours. He befriends 19-year-old Freddie Copeland, a gadget expert at the club, and learns Freddie is dying of kidney failure and a genetic heart condition, making this Christmas potentially his last. Freddie wishes for a family Christmas, so Jonathan devises a plan, despite Laura's dismay. He tracks down Freddie's biological mother, who refuses to acknowledge him, so Jonathan alters the plan with help from his friend Charlie, Laura's mother Julia, and criminals led by fraudster Patsy Morgan, successfully granting Freddie's wish. Freddie dies in hospital after Christmas, and later Laura, Jonathan, and the club put his ashes into fireworks, setting them off on 12 April as his final wish is fulfilled.
