All Star Mr & Mrs

Celebrity couples compete for charity in a game show revival.

All Star Mr & Mrs debuted on ITV on 12 April 2008. This celebrity version of the original Mr. and Mrs. (which ran on ITV from 1968 to 1988, with revivals in 1995–1996 and 1999) was itself inspired by a Canadian game show. Phillip Schofield hosts the programme; Fern Britton co-hosted with him from 2008 to 2010. Celebrities and their real-life partners compete for up to £30,000 for charity.

Format

The first round is the personal couples round. The celebrity answers three questions about their partner while the partner is in a soundproof booth wearing headphones and a blindfold. Once all three questions are answered, the partner joins them and must match as many answers as possible. All three couples play this round. Each couple is then placed inside a sight-proof booth and must answer six questions using paddles (blue for male, pink for female). The more answers they match, the better their chance of reaching the final. At the end of this round, the winning couple is announced and goes through to the final; the other couples each receive a carriage clock and £5,000 for their chosen charity. In the final, the winning celebrity enters the booth wearing headphones and a blindfold while their partner answers four questions. For each correct match on the first three questions, they win £5,000 for charity, up to £15,000 if all three are matched. If they match the fourth question, they double any money earned, up to £30,000.

Episode guide

The second series of All Star Mr & Mrs was meant to end with episode 10 on 4 July 2009, but that broadcast never happened. Michael Jackson's death made the episode unsuitable for airing because his brother Tito Jackson was shown laughing about him in it; the footage was considered too insensitive to show so soon after his passing. Following a two-year hiatus, CPL Productions confirmed the show would come back to ITV in autumn 2012, with Schofield as the sole presenter. For the Text Santa special, Stephen Mulhern hosted instead while Schofield competed alongside his wife Steph. The sixth series was taped in March 2014 and first aired on 11 June 2014. Recording for the seventh series took place from 27 June to 1 July 2015, with its premiere on 30 September 2015. The eighth series was filmed from 7 to 10 July 2016 and began broadcasting on 31 August 2016.
