That's My Line
Average people with unusual occupations took center stage.
That's My Line was a CBS reality show that aired during the summers of 1980 and 1981. Created by Mark Goodson, it was inspired by the popularity of NBC's Real People and ABC's That's Incredible! The title was taken from Goodson and Bill Todman's earlier game show, What's My Line?, and the concept was similar: featuring ordinary people with extraordinary jobs. However, this version had no panel or game element, focusing instead on interviews and demonstrations. Bob Barker hosted, with Johnny Olson announcing; both were well-known from The Price Is Right, and Olson had also announced What's My Line? for years. Co-hosts included Suzanne Childs and Tiiu Leek, with Kerry Millerick joining in 1981. That season, the show shifted from unusual occupations to highlighting the funny, bizarre, or ridiculous. Memorable segments included voice actor Mel Blanc competing with an audience member (actually his son Noel) and magician James Randi challenging James Hydrick's psychic claims.
