Cast and characters

Aaron Sauter plays Cameron Turner, a 16-year-old skater who is hostile toward his father for spending time in the basement working on comics, yet misses him greatly. Cameron hates Hugh Condon and dislikes Lucy's changes and secrecy. It is possible Cameron is an alien; in "The Compound, Pt.2" his eyes glow green, causing an attacking alien to attack itself, and in "The Trial" he moves a device with his mind. However, Cameron is not an alien but had a chemical called olivine implanted after birth. Kenny Sosnowska portrays Boris Walesa, a slacker and science fiction fan who loves skating and is a fan of Brady Turner. Boris witnesses Cameron's eyes glow green in "The Trial" but says nothing. Christina Caradon plays Lucy Condon, who keeps much to herself about her father but helps Cameron and Boris. She attended Orion Academy and later learned she was put into a spaceship. Nicola Wincing plays Pierce Rockwell, the school bully who claims not to believe in aliens; he likes Lucy because she is around Cameron. Pierce is later revealed to be a robot working for Lucy's father, Hugh Condon, and dies deflecting an attack meant for Lucy, but is rebuilt. After learning he is a robot, Pierce can use his powers at will. Other cast members include Alex Shimizu as Rock, Andrew Lemonier as Roll, Clark Beasley Jr. as Hugh Condon, Hilary Greer as Ruby Turner, Michael Forcan as Brady Turner, Zineb Lukach as Stella, Devon Talbott as Norm, and Dutch Simmons as Chief Military Surgeon.

Episodes

The pilot episode "Genesis" (a two-parter combining episodes 101 and 102) premiered on Nicktoons on February 22, 2013. Episodes 101 through 115 aired every Friday night two at a time, with episode 115 airing on April 12, 2013. Scheduling stopped without official word on the remaining 11 episodes; stated return dates of May 15, June 1, and June 11 did not materialize. The show did not re-air the first 15 episodes. Nick announced cancellation, but TeenNick re-aired the series and the 11 unaired episodes in a marathon on July 27, 2014, as part of its "Best Summer Ever" block. Those 11 episodes were counted as the second season.

Production

Originally pitched under the title Black Dawn, this live-action series began production in New York City in January 2012. It was promoted as the first original live-action program produced by and for the Nicktoons network. The debut season consisted of 26 episodes. On June 27, 2013, a lawsuit was filed by interns from the live-action crew against the Crook brothers, Larry Schwarz, and their affiliated companies; Nicktoons was not included in the case. The complaint stated that Kevin Hicks initially worked as an unpaid intern for 10 to 16 hours daily, later received pay as a wardrobe assistant, and was then asked to resume the same duties without compensation. It also claimed other interns performed tasks that should have been paid positions. The dispute was resolved by August 14, 2013.
