My Little Pony (TV series)
An animated series based on Hasbro's My Little Pony toys.
My Little Pony is an American animated series produced by Sunbow Productions and Marvel Productions and animated by Toei Animation and AKOM, based on the My Little Pony toys released by Hasbro. The series debuted on September 15, 1986, three months after the release of My Little Pony: The Movie, and ended on September 25, 1987. It aired as the first segment of a program called My Little Pony 'n Friends, with the second segment featuring unrelated cartoons based on other Hasbro franchises such as The Glo Friends, MoonDreamers, and Potato Head Kids.

Lore & Background
The series is set in Ponyland, a mystical land home to magical creatures. The Little Ponies live in Paradise Estate, enjoying a peaceful life of song and games, but must often fight for survival against witches, trolls, goblins, and other beasts. The ponies include Earth Ponies (normal but brightly colored), Pegasus Ponies (winged horses who can fly), Unicorn Ponies (with a single horn and abilities like teleportation and telepathy), Flutter Ponies (shy but powerful with magic wings), and Sea Ponies (seahorse-like creatures). Other creatures include Bushwoolies (joyful furballs with a hive mind), Furbobs (their disagreeing cousins), Stonebacks (armadillo-like creatures), and Grundles (small creatures ruled by the Grundle King). Three human children—Megan, Danny, and Molly—often fly across the Rainbow to join the ponies, and the characters seek advice from the Moochick, a wise gnome living in the Mushromp with his rabbit assistant Habbit.

The series is notable as the first television series based on the My Little Pony toy line, airing as part of the syndicated program My Little Pony 'n Friends. Two previous television specials, Rescue at Midnight Castle and Escape from Catrina, were edited into segments of the show. The complete series of My Little Pony segments has been released on DVD in Regions 1 and 4, while other sections such as 'My Little Pony: The Glo Friends' have been released on DVD as of 2023. In the UK, the series first aired on November 7, 1987 on MTV, and in Russia a dubbed version aired on channel 2x2 from 1993 to 1995. The series introduced many characters and settings—such as Paradise Estate—that originated in the 1986 film.
