My Little Pony: Friendship Is Magic is an animated TV series that launched the fourth generation of Hasbro's My Little Pony toy line. The story centers on Twilight Sparkle, a bookish unicorn (voiced by Tara Strong), her dragon assistant Spike (Cathy Weseluck), and her friends Applejack (Ashleigh Ball), Rarity (Tabitha St. Germain), Fluttershy (Andrea Libman), Rainbow Dash (Ashleigh Ball), and Pinkie Pie (Andrea Libman). These six ponies, called the "Mane Six," travel across the land of Equestria, helping others and resolving conflicts through the power of friendship.
The show was produced by Allspark Animation and animated by DHX Media Vancouver. It aired on The Hub (later renamed Discovery Family) in the United States from October 10, 2010, to October 12, 2019. Hasbro chose animator Lauren Faust to lead the series. Faust wanted to challenge the typical style of My Little Pony and other shows aimed at girls, so she added deeper character development and fantasy worldbuilding, creating a show that matched how she played with her toys as a child. She left the series during its second season, and other staff members took over.
Friendship Is Magic became one of the highest-rated shows on The Hub and opened up new merchandising opportunities for Hasbro. Though it was made primarily for young girls, it also attracted a large adult fanbase known as "bronies." A spin-off franchise, My Little Pony: Equestria Girls, launched in 2013 and ran alongside the main series for six years. A feature-length film based on the TV series came out in October 2017 in the United States. A comedy spin-off, My Little Pony: Pony Life, premiered in November 2020. In July 2025, Amazon MGM Studios and Hasbro Entertainment announced a live-action adaptation of the franchise.
