Mutant X (TV series)
Genetically engineered mutants seek out and protect their own.
Mutant X is a superhero television series that aired under a Marvel Comics license, though it shares no connection with the Mutant X comic book series. It premiered in first-run syndication on October 6, 2001. The show was created by Avi Arad and follows a team called Mutant X, made up of "new mutants" who gained extraordinary abilities through genetic engineering. These individuals were once test subjects in secret government experiments, and the team's mission is to find and protect other new mutants. The series was described as a blend of X-Men and The Matrix. It was filmed in Toronto, Ontario, Canada. Although a fourth season was announced, the show was abruptly canceled in 2004 after Fireworks Entertainment, one of its production companies, was dismantled, leaving the story unresolved on a cliffhanger.
The main characters include Jesse Kilmartin, who can alter his body's density at will, becoming intangible or super-dense, but only as long as he can hold his breath; he can also extend this power to people or objects he touches. He is the only known new mutant to have surpassed his "expiration date" and serves as the team's technology and computer expert. Shalimar Fox is a fusion of human and animal DNA, a "feline feral" with superhuman strength, agility, senses, and healing abilities. After further mutation, she develops a sixth sense for anticipating danger. Adam found her starving and frightened in a motel. Like all feline ferals, she is territorial, fears fire, and is immune to hypnosis. Emma DeLauro is a "tele-empath" who can send and receive emotions from others, has limited precognition, and can induce hallucinations by drawing on others' emotions. She later gains the ability to project psychic energy blasts that can knock opponents unconscious, alter or erase memories, or kill. Before joining Mutant X, she sold clothes and used her emotional control to succeed in business. Initially reluctant to join, she later bonds with Brennan. She dies in an explosion at Naxcon Corporation Industries. Brennan Mulwray is an "elemental electrical" mutant who can generate enough electricity to power a small city, shoot electrical bolts from his hands, and launch himself into the air by firing downward. Water causes him to short-circuit.
