Last updated

"Scoobynatural" is the 16th episode of the 13th season of Supernatural and the 280th overall. It is the only episode of the series to be mostly animated, with animation by Warner Bros. Animation. The episode first aired on March 29, 2018, on The CW.

Plot

After stopping a plush dinosaur that comes to life in a pawn shop, the grateful owner gives Dean a new TV. While testing it, the Winchesters are sucked into Dean's favorite episode of Scooby-Doo, Where Are You!, followed by Castiel. They discover an actual ghost killing people, including the real culprit Cosgood Creeps. The Winchesters and the Scooby Gang team up to trap the ghost, who reveals he is a young boy used by a greedy real estate developer to scare shop owners.

The ghost helps fool the Scooby Gang into thinking it was a human villain, then returns the Winchesters and Castiel to the real world. There, they put the ghost to rest and get the criminal arrested for tax evasion. Before being sucked into Scooby-Doo, Castiel had gotten the fruit from the Tree of Life.

Reception

Critics praised the episode. Den of Geek's Bridget LaMonica awarded it a perfect 5/5, describing it as a "milestone" and a "shameless dose of humor and nostalgia." EW's Samantha Highfill gave it an "A," stating that no other series could pull off such a crossover as well. TVGuide's Kaitlin Thomas likened it to earlier meta-episodes and declared it an "instant classic."
