History

Team Falcons was co-founded in 2017 by Mossaad "Msdossary" Al-Dossary, winner of the 2018 FIFA eWorld Cup, who also serves as its CEO. In August 2022, Grant Rousseau joined as Global Director of Esports. Rousseau stated that Msdossary's founding goal was to develop an esports world for gamers in MENA. As a Saudi organization, Falcons competes in MENA, EMEA, and Asian regions. Much of its branding has focused on popularity in MENA and Europe, similar to FaZe Clan. The organization's financial backers have not been formally announced, though it is believed to have connections with the Saudi royal family. In July 2022, Gamers8 announced that Falcons would have dedicated spaces at an event in Riyadh: Falcons Arena and Falcons District. The former featured tournaments, meet-and-greets, and a live cooking show; the latter had merchandise, a museum, a gaming PC center, an academy, and a streaming area. The 2023 festival "Gamers8: The Land of Heroes" included Falcons HQ, where visitors could play against gaming influencers. Falcons has targeted high-profile players and coaches with considerable past success, successfully forming superteams. Some players have declined, with Canadian Counter-Strike player Twistzz stating he would not join for money alone. In 2023 and 2024, Falcons pushed to form rosters across multiple esports, and many have likened this push to sportswashing.

Divisions

In mid-2023, Falcons aimed to buy Astralis's LEC slot, but talks broke down after Riot Games did not sanction the purchase; the slot went to Karmine Corp. In May 2024, Falcons partnered with AP Bren, a Mobile Legends team, ahead of MPL Philippines season 13 playoffs. That same month, Falcons entered Apex Legends by signing ImperialHal, Genburten, and Zer0, forming a superteam. They won the North American Pro League and silver at the 2024 Esports World Cup. After a 20th-place finish at the ALGS Year 4 Split 2 Playoffs, Genburten was replaced by Wxltzy, and Draugr became head coach. In ALGS Year 5, internal conflicts led to Zer0 being benched on September 10, 2025, and replaced by Gild on September 15. In August 2024, Falcons acquired the Vegas Legion CDL franchise spot from C0ntact Gaming, competing as Vegas Falcons starting in 2025. Before the 2026 season, the franchise was renamed Riyadh Falcons.
