His backstory traced back to a devastating defeat roughly two thousand years ago at the hands of the devas, after which a divine boon granted him the promise of a future return. This long-ago conflict established the stakes for the present-day narrative. The antagonistic forces were further amplified by Rana Maayan, the Supreme Commander of the Icchapuri Army, who was responsible for betraying Kalanthakan. Rana Maayan was also identified as Aardhanaari and served as a devotee and son of Dhumavathi Devi, a demi-goddess. On the Satavagheeni side, Jyothiingam, a former Chief Commander, had been banished from the kingdom and cursed by Queen Lakshmi Prabhavathi for his betrayal. The interplay of these ancient grudges, divine boons, and dynastic rivalries across the Suryakundala, Satavagheeni, and Icchapuri dynasties created a multilayered conflict that drove the series forward.

Supporting Ensemble & Mythological World-Building

Beyond the principal leads, Maya assembled a rich supporting ensemble that expanded the show's mythological and cultural landscape. Sadiq played Ameer Baasha, also called Vaapa, an Ayurvedic and mystical arts specialist who protected Darshini much like a father figure. Two thousand years earlier, he had served as the Supreme Commander of the Satavagheeni Army, and he was noted as a devoted follower of Allah. Vincent Asokan appeared as Rana Maayan and Aardhanaari, while a shape-shifting magical pigeon named Sugumadhapura, also known as Kuyli in Tamil and Swethasudha or Gayathri in Telugu, served as Jyothiingam's apprentice, aiding Darshini under his instructions. The spirit Devathai Raagini, played by Yashika Aannand, guarded Aravind and Darshini against Rana Maayan's power. Kulappulli Leela portrayed Alangariamma, Kalanthakan's mother, a practitioner of black magic and devotee of the evil demi-goddess Dandhini Devi. Manobala appeared as Bhadra, Rana Maayan's apprentice, while Mahanadi Shankar played Pasupathi, Alangariamma's loyal assistant.
