Gameplay

Outdoor Life offers two modes: instant action and challenge. In instant action, the player selects one of twelve park locations, receives $25,000, and can build freely before opening the park. Challenge mode shares many features but adds a specific objective and time limit; its twelve challenges are grouped into beginner, intermediate, and advanced sections of four each. The player constructs buildings from five categories: lodge, food and entertainment, construction and expansion, shops, and administration and safety. Lodge includes guest accommodations and washrooms. Food and entertainment covers bars, ATV and boat rentals, and park tours. Construction and expansion comprises infrastructure buildings such as construction, maintenance, groundskeeper, and trail buildings. Shops offer gun and bow shops, hunter and fisherman supplies, general stores, and meat lockers. Administration and safety includes tags and licensing, ranger station, fire tower, conservation center, gun and trail safety, first aid, and seek and rescue buildings.

Reception

The game received mixed reviews. Game Zone called it a niche game with too much to know about the ecosystem and hunter needs. IGN found the screens confusing and the effects of decisions unclear. Critics generally agreed the concepts were solid but too complicated and lacking polish. Spanish PC Life magazine rated it six out of ten. Strana Igr described it as a good game with great graphics and translation.
