Excalibur

Lore & Background

The blade's most defining characteristic is its ability to cut through angelic grace, effectively killing an angel by separating their spiritual essence from their human vessel without destroying the body itself. This makes it one of the few known methods to permanently remove a rogue or hostile angel from existence. Throughout the series, the search for Excalibur drives significant plot points, as various factions seek to control its power or ensure it remains lost forever.

Reader's Guide

Excalibur is an artifact of celestial origin, likely forged by angels or ancient powers long before human history began. Its primary rule of use is its absolute cutting capability; it can slice through any material in the universe, including the ethereal grace that binds an angel to a human vessel. However, wielding Excalibur is not without severe consequences and limitations. The sword requires immense physical strength and spiritual fortitude to handle effectively; a normal human might struggle against its weight or be overwhelmed by the raw energy it radiates.

Furthermore, using the blade to kill an angel carries heavy metaphysical repercussions, potentially destabilizing the balance between Heaven and Earth. The sword is also difficult to control for those not attuned to its power. It may resist wielders who lack a pure purpose or who seek to use it for selfish gain. Once drawn, the weapon demands action, often forcing the user into conflict.

Its loss or misuse can lead to catastrophic outcomes, as it places a tool of divine destruction in the hands of fallible beings.
