Plot
The Mighty Morphin Power Rangers are training in the Command Center when Lord Drakkon, an alternate future version of Tommy Oliver, breaches it. In his world, Drakkon sided with Rita Repulsa, killed her and the other Rangers, and now uses a Chaos Crystal charged by Tommy's green chaos energy to travel across time and space. He uses Dragon Cannons to remove Rangers' powers and steal their morphers. Zordon sends a warning through the Morphin Grid, and with help from Time Force Ranger Jen Scotts, begins sending Rangers through time to protect others. Kimberly Hart frees the Ranger Slayer, a future version of herself from Drakkon's universe, from his control. The Rangers regroup at Corinth, where Dr. K works on disrupting the Dragon Cannons. Drakkon attacks the city with his forces and powered-up Rangers under his control. The Ranger Slayer reveals Drakkon plans to gain full control of the Morphin Grid and rewrite reality. Zordon asks Rita to help stop Drakkon.
Development and release
Power Rangers: Battle for the Grid first launched in March 2019 on Xbox One and Nintendo Switch, with PlayStation 4 and Windows versions arriving later that year. A story mode, penned by Boom! Studios Power Rangers comic writer Kyle Higgins, arrived in an April 2019 update alongside three new fighters, voice acting, and two additional stages. The voice cast includes Jason David Frank, Austin St. John, Johnny Yong Bosch, David J. Fielding, Barbara Goodson, Kerrigan Mahan, Sabrina Lu, and Daniel Southworth. A July 2019 update brought three more characters through the first season pass and enabled cross-platform play across Switch, Xbox One, and Windows; PlayStation 4 joined that feature in February 2020, making it the first eighth-generation fighting game with full platform-agnostic multiplayer. A second season pass was announced alongside the Windows release, and a third season of content was revealed on May 25, 2020. On April 13, 2021, Capcom’s Ryu and Chun-Li were announced as playable via a Street Fighter Pack, released on May 25 alongside a digital Super Edition containing all prior DLC. A physical Super Edition followed in August 2021. A fourth season of content was announced on September 14, 2021.
