The launch sequence was an automated emergency protocol triggered when the Aurora's structural integrity became compromised. As the ship plummeted toward the surface, escape pods were ejected into the atmosphere and ocean below, scattering across different biomes of the planet. The player character Ryley Robinson, Non-Essential Systems Maintenance Chief, is among those of the Aurora crew to eject in escape pods. He is knocked unconscious during atmospheric entry and finds himself to be the sole survivor by the time he wakes up.

In Their Own Story

Silence breaks first, replaced by the hiss of cooling metal and the rhythmic lap of waves against the hull. You blink open eyes heavy from shock, the interior light flickering to life with a low hum. The hatch groans under pressure before giving way, revealing a sky washed in violet hues and an ocean that stretches endlessly beyond the sand. You step out onto the shore, boots sinking into warm grains that feel alien yet familiar. A PDA clings to your wrist, its screen dark until you press the button. Static clears, replaced by a blinking map marker labeled Aurora Wreckage. The ocean calls, inviting and terrifying, hiding secrets beneath its turquoise surface while the wreckage of humanity drifts in the distance.

Reader's Guide

The sequence begins with the catastrophic failure of the USG Aurora as it attempts planetary entry on 4546B. Critical systems fail, triggering an emergency protocol that ejects all available escape pods before impact. The protagonist awakens in an escape pod, washed ashore on a sandy beach, marking the true start of survival. It does not mention the Kharaa bacterium spreading during descent, mission fragments, or a containment breach. The player's objective is to explore the ocean, survive its dangers, and complete tasks to advance the plot, ultimately finding a way to escape the planet.
