Sōsuke is the five-year-old boy in Ponyo who rescues a goldfish-like girl trapped in a glass jar on the shore of his fishing town, names her Ponyo and promises to protect her. Ponyo's mother, Gran Mamare, declares that if Sōsuke passes a test, Ponyo can live as a human.
