Despite her fearsome power, she is deeply devoted to her son, Boh, whom she keeps in a padded room as an oversized infant. This contradiction is exposed when Zeniba, Yubaba's twin sister, turns Boh into a mouse. Yubaba nearly orders Sen's parents slaughtered when she learns Boh is missing, but Haku offers to retrieve him if Yubaba releases Sen and her parents. Yubaba agrees, but only if Sen can pass a final test: identifying her parents among a group of pigs. When Sen correctly answers that none of the pigs are her parents, Yubaba's contract disappears and Sen is given back her real name.
