Bob Newby joins Joyce Maldonado and James Hopper Jr. to investigate the mysterious animal killings in Hawkins. Their work leads them to suspect Victor Creel of the murders of Virginia and Alice Creel. Bob is present at the Hawkins High School production of *Dark of the Moon* when Henry Creel, under the influence of a shadowy entity, throws Patty Newby from the stage rafters. After the incident, Bob, Joyce, and Jim assume Victor Creel is responsible for the deaths of his wife and daughter.
