The original Harvest Moon: Friends of Mineral Town follows a young boy who becomes lost in the countryside and is taken in by an old farmer. After the farmer dies, the boy inherits the farm and works to restore it. The player grows crops, raises livestock, befriends villagers, and can marry one of six bachelorettes. A female version, Harvest Moon: More Friends of Mineral Town, was released on December 12, 2003 in Japan and on July 19, 2005 in North America, featuring a female protagonist who can marry one of eight bachelors.

The 3D remake, Story of Seasons: Friends of Mineral Town, was released for the Nintendo Switch in Japan and Taiwan on October 17, 2019, in Europe on July 10, 2020, and in North America on July 14, 2020. A Microsoft Windows version followed on July 14, 2020. The game was later ported to Xbox One and PlayStation 4, with European releases on October 15, 2021, and North American releases on October 26, 2021. In Japan, the Xbox One version launched on October 27, 2021, and the PlayStation 4 version on November 25, 2021. The original Game Boy Advance game was praised by critics, with IGN rating it 8.9 and GameRankings giving it an aggregate score of 82%. The female version received an IGN rating of 8.5 and a GameRankings score of 79%.
