The Dominion was born from the ashes of the Terran Confederacy. Arcturus Mengsk, leader of the rebel group Sons of Korhal, utilized the Zerg Swarm as a weapon to destroy the Confederate capital of Tarsonis, forcing the Confederacy into submission. This victory allowed him to crown himself Emperor and establish his capital on Korhal IV. Unlike the corrupt bureaucracy he replaced, the Dominion promised order, though it was maintained through authoritarian control and military might.

Throughout its history, the Dominion has faced existential threats from the Zerg and Protoss alike. During the Brood War, Mengsk's forces fought to contain the infestation while managing internal political strife. The organization proved resilient, adapting its strategies to survive the invasion of the UED fleet and the return of Sarah Kerrigan as the Queen of Blades. Its military strength remains a cornerstone of human survival in the sector.

Leadership eventually passed from Arcturus to his son, Valerian Mengsk, following a power struggle, marking a new era for the empire.
